Meat from dairy cows, rarely valued in American kitchens and restaurants, usually becomes dog food and fast-food burgers. When mature dairy cows (about six years old) are allowed to pasture longer, their fat, which normally goes into milk, returns to the muscles and makes the meat richer and more tender. But a few farms, including Mindful Meat in Marin County, Calif., and Butter Meat Company in Pavilion, N.Y., just west of the Finger Lakes, have been selling meat from culled dairy cows and convincing skeptics. At Stone Barns, dairy cattle are living out their golden years munching on Pocantico Hills grass before becoming the highlight of a tasting menu that can run more than $400 per person. All the beef dishes at the restaurant are made with culled dairy meat; at the Stone Barns store, frozen strip-loin steaks are $24 a pound.

When Hussein Smko was 9, the American military arrived in his hometown, Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s Kurdish region. It was 2003, and Smko, already a survivor of the Kurdish civil war, would chase the American Humvees with other kids. One day a soldier beckoned him over and demonstrated a simple, beguiling gesture: He held out a straight arm then made it ripple like water, a classic hip-hop move. “I thought it was like a big sparkle,” Smko, 30, said in an interview. The dance they were preparing, “On the Nature of Rabbits,” opens Wednesday at the Joyce Theater in Manhattan.

In an interview, CEO Larry Culp said the company is aiming for a 20% to 25% year-on-year increase in the engine deliveries in 2024, lower than a revised 40% to 45% annual growth this year. Still, hitting the target will not be easy as it requires quarter-on-quarter improvements in the supply chain, he said. LEAP engines, which GE produces in a joint venture with France's Safran (SAF.PA), power the narrowbody aircraft of Boeing Co (BA.N) and Airbus (AIR.PA). It forced GE to trim the delivery growth target for LEAP engines this year by at least 5 percentage points and push out some of the deliveries into 2024 and 2025. But the demand for both aftermarket services and new engine deliveries is so strong that GE and its suppliers need to do more, Culp said.

What Is the 50/30/20 Rule?
  + stars: | 2023-09-07 | by ( Kevin J. Ryan | ) www.wsj.com   time to read: +7 min
Perhaps the most popular method is the 50/30/20 rule, which is a simple and effective way to take control of your money. The 50/30/20 budget rule was popularized by Sen. Elizabeth Warren—then a Harvard Law professor—and her daughter, Amelia Warren Tyagi, in their 2006 book “All Your Worth: The Ultimate Lifetime Money Plan.” They called it a “good rule of thumb” for getting your budget in order. What is the 50/30/20 rule? Alternatives to the 50/30/20 budget methodOf course, no one budgeting method is for everyone. For example, like the 50/30/20 rule, the 70/20/10 rule also divides your after-tax income into three categories but differently: 70% for monthly spending (including necessities), 20% for savings and for 10% donations and debt repayment above the minimums.

The funding to Regeneron is a part of a $5 billion initiative dubbed "Project NextGen" by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The funding also includes $1 billion for four mid-stage clinical trials of new COVID vaccines, and $100 million to Global Health Investment Corp - a non-profit organization that invests in new technologies that will accelerate responses to diseases. REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File Photo Acquire Licensing RightsAug 18 (Reuters) - Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (REGN.O) said on Friday the U.S. health regulator approved its drug to treat a rare blood disease. The drug pozelimab, branded as Veopoz, would treat CHAPLE disease in adult and pediatric patients 1 year of age and older. Regeneron said the disease has fewer than 10 patients identified in the U.S. and estimates less than 100 patients worldwide. With Veopoz's approval, the company said the pre-approval inspection issues related to the marketing application of the higher dose of its blockbuster eye disease drug Eylea, or aflibercept, has been addressed. The FDA had in June declined to approve the higher-dose version following an inspection at third-party manufacturer Catalent (CTLT.N).

REUTERS/Brendan McDermid/File PhotoAug 3 (Reuters) - Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (REGN.O) expects a U.S. decision on a higher-dose version of its blockbuster eye disease drug Eylea in the third quarter, much earlier than market expectations, sending its shares up 5% on Thursday. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration declined to approve the higher-dose version in June following an inspection at third-party manufacturer Catalent (CTLT.N). Regeneron said it has been submitting manufacturing data required by the FDA on a rolling basis, and expects to finish the submissions by mid-August. Regeneron said the higher-dose Eylea was manufactured on the same line as pozelimab, its experimental drug being reviewed to treat a rare blood disease.

The American militia men were hidden in the bushes having lunch and playing cards when they heard the horse galloping toward them. He was Maj. John André, head of British secret intelligence. He had only received the information two days earlier from Benedict Arnold, the commander of the fort, and André now was riding south in the hope of getting back behind the British lines. But the militia men, John Paulding, David Williams and Isaac Van Wart, questioned André, realized he was a spy and arrested him. West Point was never attacked, André was later hanged and Arnold, whose name became synonymous with treason, fled.

A view of the Regeneron Pharmaceuticals headquarters in Tarrytown, New York. Shares of Regeneron fell nearly 9% Tuesday after the U.S. Food and Drug Administration declined to approve a higher-dose version of the company's blockbuster eye disease treatment. Regeneron said the rejection was "solely due to an ongoing review of inspection findings at a third-party filler." That suggests the drug could potentially win approval down the road. But a delay won't help the company fight off threats to its Eylea drug franchise, which is facing competition from Roche Holdings ' eye drug, Vabysmo.

Regeneron’s drug Eylea is used to treat retinal diseases. Leonard Schleifer , the longtime Regeneron boss, likes to point out that, unlike many giant drug companies gaming the healthcare system with all kinds of gimmicks, his biotech focuses on true innovation. The Tarrytown, N.Y.-based company has certainly developed therapies that have made a difference for patients suffering from difficult-to-treat illnesses. More recently, it was catapulted into the national spotlight during the pandemic thanks to its monoclonal antibody infusion for Covid-19.

The justices took up Amgen's appeal of the lower court ruling that threw out the Repatha patents. Amgen and other drugmakers have called the case a test of their ability to earn and defend patents for important drugs. Amgen first sued Regeneron and Sanofi in 2014 over their rival drug Praluent, which works by a similar mechanism as Repatha. Thousand Oaks, California-based Amgen sold more than $1.1 billion worth of Repatha worldwide last year. Regeneron sold $170 million worth of Praluent in the United States last year, and Sanofi sold over $200 million worth in the rest of the world.

A plum torte. Today I’m going to be making the original plum torte. So I’m going to just have these, put them off to the side before I get going with my cake batter. Anyway, while my original plum torte bakes, I’m going to do some variations. It’s giving ‘Call Me By Your Name.’ It’s giving like Oliver and Elio eating a plum torte by the pool.
